Vincente from Yacht Charter Service www.IbizaCharter.com. If you need a Boat, he is the right man for you ;-) |
|
Norbert:
Vicente, you are not only the Owner of the Website
http://www.ibizacharter.com , you are also
from this Yacht service
AND you could live and work at Ibiza. Is there any wish, which has not come
true, smile??????
Vincente:
Smile... Of course there are many wishes. It is very nice to live in Ibiza, and I prefer to work here than in other places, but it is not as perfect as many can think. We literally do nothing in winter and then, suddenly, work without any rest in summer... the difference is brutal.
Norbert:
If someone reads "Yacht Renting", the most people think this is VERY
expensive and only for the rich. Is this true? Or do you also have also
smaller boats?
Vincente:
It isn't really for rich people. Normally, our clients are a group of friends or a family that share the cost of the boat. Think on the cost of a hotel for a 6 member family, and then compare the situation of the hotel and the possibility to sleep each day in a different beach or cala with the boat. Of course, if you like to sail, the decision is very clear for the boat.
Our smallest boat at this moment is a 10 meter sailing boat with 3 cabins and 1 heads for 6 person.
Norbert:
Where are your clients from and what is the typical rent-time (how many days)???
Vincente:
80 % of our clients are from Spain. Maybe because we have been advertising on Spanish sailing magazines. Since we opened the website last year, we are receiving reservations from other countries, like Germany, France, Italy and the United States.
The typical rent-time is one week, Saturday to Saturday. In high season we do not accept rents for less than a week, but we accept it in low season.
Norbert:
What is necessary to rent a boat (money of course, but anything else))???
Vincente:
Smile... Yes, money of course, but we, by law, must ask the clients to have the nautical
titulation according to the boat size. As you may know, in Spain it is required to have a title called "PER", that let's you sail a boat until 12 meters.
If you want to rent a bigger boat, you need the title called "Patron de Yate".
If you don't have any of these titles, then you need a professional skipper, that we can also provide. We accept the equivalent titles of specific countries.
Norbert:
If someone rents a boat, which places would you recommend him to sail to?????
Vincente:
Formentera... I am in love with the island. Clear green and blue water and clean sand... and also the people. They are lovely. If you rent a boat for more than a week, I can recommend to go around Ibiza and Formentera. You will never forget that trip.
Norbert:
Did you ever get a damaged boat back or did one sink?
Vincente:
Fortunately, we never had a boat that sank. But we get some small damages that can be repaired immediately. The boats are very well built and are though.
Also the people that rent the boats are very careful with the boats.
Norbert:
What was your funniest Adventure in regards to your Job?
Vincente:
Well, there are many of them, but there are always the small situations created because the clients do not listen to your explanations, and then they call you by phone asking silly things, like how to stop the motor, where is the mooring place... etc.
Norbert:
I think there are also a lot of VIPs, which use your service. With the time, you get used to this, but has there been one or two famous people, where you thought "..... uh-huh, this man/wife here at Ibiza Charter.."?????
Vincente:
Yes, we had some VIPs using our services, but they usually rent the boat through an assistant, so initially you don't know who is going to use the boat. You see them when they board the boat and you think uh-huh, I've seen you before.
I remember one time a man called me from Barcelona, and he asked me a boat for one day, with a skipper, and he wanted the boat in Formentera because he thought it was more private to board the boat there than the marina in Ibiza.
He also ordered 2 bottles of good champagne, and some food.
He paid it in advance and I never saw him/her ( I'm sure there was a woman with him :-)).
I just talked to him by phone and never heard from him again.
Norbert:
I know, at sometime, you have only less time, but you sure have some hobbies. What kind of hobbies?
Vincente:
I like sailing. I have a small catamaran I like to sail because it is very fast. I also like skiing (snow, not water). I like to see some snow when I'm tired of so much water.
Also I'm very interested in photography, and cars.
Norbert:
Which are your preferred beaches????
Vincente:
In Ibiza I like Salinas beach and Cala Conta. In Formentera, Illetas.
Norbert:
Ibiza is well known as Party island. Which are your favorite Discotheques?
And which is your favorite Drink?
Vincente:
Pacha is my favorite discotheque, but I don't go there very often. I liked KU when it was an open discotheque. When they covered it and called it Privilege, I decided not to go there anymore. My favorite drinks are beer and a good red wine (rioja if possible).
Norbert:
But there are also some VERY good restaurants at Ibiza; please tell me your favorite once!
Vincente:
Yes, there are many good restaurants at Ibiza. I can't tell you my favorite because I like to change very often, depending on what I want to eat. One of the best is Ama Lur, on the
road to San Miguel.
If you want good meat, you should go to C´as Pagés, on the road to San Juan. Another good one is La Masía, again on the road to San Miguel. In San Antonio, you can find Sa Capella, and Il Vaticano, both very nice restaurants and very good food.
Norbert:
Ibiza has changed a lot on the last years. Out of your view, what have been the 3 positive changes and what have been the 3 negative changes in between the last 10 years?
Vincente:
Well, the infrastructures improved a lot during the last 10 years. This is positive for the visitors but also for us living all year here. I can tell you which infrastructures changed but as a resume, they are the roads, port and airport, beaches cleaning etc.
On the negative side is the impact the tourism plays on the island. We can not support the population that comes to the island in August. There is not enough fresh water (we had to install a big water plant), the electric plant has to grow just for 15 days in august, and we have to hear every year what the British hooligans do in San Antonio... This is also a resume.
Norbert:
If YOU could change something at Ibiza, what would this be???
Vincente:
I would destroy some horrible hotels and buildings, and recycle the actual hotels for a more comfortable and luxurious ones. We need to focus on a better kind of tourists, not only in the number of them that visit the island. For the moment it is impossible because they can not be together at the same time. One thing is for sure: nobody would share the same hotel with one hundred British hooligans.
Norbert:
Ibiza is the Island of the beautiful girls in Summertime. If you live in Ibiza, is this "normal" in between the years or are there STILL girls, which are attracting your attention, even if you are living at the "Island of the Beauties"?
Vincente:
Smile.... Of course there are STILL girls. But you are right when you say a lot of beautiful girls visit us in summer, and make you turn your head when they pass... It causes you a lot of
problems with your girlfriend :)
Norbert:
What do you do in Wintertime????
Vincente:
Incredible huh? but there are many things you can do here in Winter. I never understood why nobody comes here in winter. The weather is wonderful, sunny and with good temperature. In winter everybody prepares for the next season, enjoy a well earned holidays and do sports.
Norbert:
And the last question: Which place should every Ibiza-Traveler visit???
Vincente:
The whole island :) You will find wonderful and interesting places all around the island.
Vicente, thanks a lot for the Interview...
The Interview was made by Norbert in April 2001!
